Owning a pet is a rewarding experience but does come with challenges. Below is a working list of resources on various topics to help pet owners become better informed and make good decisions for their family and pets.
Contact the Office of Animal Welfare, which provides tips on finding your lost pet, allows you to post a lost pet report and offers a site listing found animals.
If you or someone you know is considering turning their pet in to a shelter, or you have found a stray, click here for a list of local rescues and shelters that may be able to help.
Microchipping Your Pet
One in 3 pets will become lost. Without proper identification, 90 percent won’t find their way home. Find out more about microchipping.
Vaccinating Your Pet
It is very important to discuss with your veterinarian a vaccination protocol that’s right for your pet. Factors that should be examined include age, medical history, environment, travel habits and lifestyle.
Most vets highly recommend administering core vaccines to healthy dogs and cats. The State of Delaware requires that all cats and dogs 6 months and older be vaccinated for rabies.
You can also have your pet vaccinated at the Delaware SPCA’s Wellness Clinic or monthly Vaccine Clinic.
