What Is Included In An SPCA Adoption? |
|
Neutering All dogs and cats adopted from the Delaware SPCA are already spayed or neutered. Having this procedure done by a vet would typically cost at least three to four times what we charge for the total adoption!
Vaccinations Adoptions include rabies, distemper and bordatella vaccinations. Distemper shots may require a booster from your vet after adoption. Heartworm or feline leukemia tests may also be performed.
Exceptions to tests or vaccinations may be made based on the age or health of the animal.
Microchip All dogs and cats are given a microchip prior to adoption. The microchip is implanted between the shoulders and is about the size of a grain of rice.
The microchip is a form of permanent identification but not a tracking device. The chip is encoded with an id number that can be retrieved with a special scanning device, which most shelters and veterinarians now have. The chips do not contain batteries or moving parts and are considered to have an indefinite life span.
Complimentary Wellness Exam Delaware SPCA adoptions include a free exam by one of a group of participating vets. The list is included in your adoption packet. Many vets offer this service, so even if your vet is not on our list feel free to ask if they are willing to participate.
We request that you take advantage of this program within 7 days of adoption.
