The Delaware SPCA is pleased to announce to formation of the Emily du Pont Society.

The Emily du Pont Society recognizes individuals who give a minimum of $1,000 or more in unrestricted contributions annually to the Delaware SPCA.  This support is critical to our operating budget and our ability to care and protect neglected, abused and abandoned animals.  We are the State's oldest and fastest growing animal welfare organization.

The Society is named in honor of Emily du Pont, whose philanthropic support of the Delaware SPCA included the largest single asset ever given to the organization. In 1970, Emily donated 20 acres of land in Newark that became the site of SPCA's Stanton shelter built in the 1970s. Emily devoted endless hours to raising money for the Delaware SPCA and was its most generous supporter until her death in 1991.

Emily du Pont understood the critical role that the Delaware SPCA plays in our state. Our animal anti-cruelty enforcement team has the power to prosecute animal abusers and rescue animals who are mistreated and neglected. We operate two shelters in Stanton and Georgetown that take in over 3,500 animals a year, many of which are in urgent need of care and medical attention before they find new homes.   We are Delaware's largest provider of low-cost spay/neuter services. In the future, we plan to expand and rebuild our shelter facilities so that we can offer even better adoption and education programs.
