The Society is named after Emily Du Pont, whose philanthropy helped ensure the livelihood and longevity of Delaware SPCA. In 1970, Emily generously donated 18 acres of land in Newark, the site of our current facility, representing the largest single gift ever given to the organization. Emily devoted endless hours to raising funds for the Delaware SPCA and was our greatest supporter until her death in 1991.
